I can never get enough cheese, and im not ashamed to say it. This recipe calls for some balance to
the healthy hydrating tomato and crisp lettuce combo. Don't worry, it isn't clog your arteries bad,
but it wouldn't fly in Jamie Oliver's kitchen. Make sure you melt the cheese on both sides of the
bread, with the outer side being on the heat longer so you can ensure it gets crispy, while keeping
the inner cheese gooey and melted.
We aren't getting too fancy, but the DIY still stands, feel free to substitute your cheese or bread
in here, but I'll be listing my favourite options.
Ingredients
Sourdough bread, sliced
Monterey Jack cheese, sliced or shredded
Optional: half Monterey jack, half smoky gouda
Iceberg Lettuce, ripped or cut
Roma tomatoes, sliced
Thick cut bacon
Butter, for the pan
Healthier Options
I know, I know. The cheesiness is great once in a while, but we do have to acknowledge the benefits
of a lighter meal, both for our body's sake and so we don't get tired of eating the household
classic BLT. Keeping it a little bit healthier is no issue, with simple substitutions like whole
grain bread, low fat cheese, and lean bacon. My cousin even likes to have it with a lettuce wrap to
maintain his keto diet but not have to neglect this nostalgic fave. I'll even go as far as replacing
the bacon with turkey bacon if I'm pretending to get my beach bod ready, and it's still delicious,
but now with a lower fat percentage.
Whole grain bread
Lower fat cheese and bacon
Lettuce wrapped, no bread
Turkey bacon instead
