The Staple Sandwich

Here's the BL-Tea

Our family's beloved staple was the BLT, known for its perfect blend of simplicity, flavor and DIY-ability. With crispy bacon, fresh lettuce, and juicy tomatoes stacked between slices of toasted bread, it's a timeless favourite. Whether you prefer American bacon or Canadian, eh, be it crisp and sturdy sourdough or slightly sweet brioche, this classic will have something for everyone. Some, like myself, prefer adding some sharp cheddar or Monterey jack for extra richness and flavour, though purists may say that's a "BLTC". Whether enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the BLT continues to be a classic comfort food enjoyed by many, and there’s no limit to the variations you can make to suit your taste.

Give them a B...

My favourite part? It's incredibly versatile. You can experiment with different ingredients to elevate your BLT. Try avocado slices for a creamy texture or a fried egg to make it even more indulgent. Feeling adventurous? I'll never say no to some spicy aioli or sriracha for a kick. You can even switch up the greens with arugula or spinach for a healthier bite. The BLT is as customizable as it is classic, making it a go-to sandwich that can be tailored to any craving, I'm not ashamed to say I've had them for all meals of the day, though not in the same day...yet. At the heart of it, though, is the simplicity that has made this sandwich a household favorite for generations.

...They'll take an LT

I believe when it comes to crafting the perfect BLT, the choice of bread plays a key role in elevating the sandwich. Traditionalists might go for sourdough or whole wheat, preferring that sturdy crunch to balance out the juicy tomatoes. For those craving something more indulgent, croissant bread is an absolute game-changer. Its buttery layers elevate your BLT with that melt-in-your-mouth quality. Brioche is also a popular choice, with a sweetness that pairs beautifully with the savory bacon. No matter the bread, it’s all about creating the perfect bite.

You're BL-Free to DIY

The beauty of a BLT sandwich lies in its simplicity and endless customization options. We've gone over the typical ingredients, but you can easily make it your own. Experiment with different types of protein, like our favourite up here in the great white north, smoky maple bacon, or double up with classic bacon and some world-renowned Alberta beef. Want more flavor? Add a spread like garlic aioli, sriracha, or even a zesty chipotle mayo. Try using garlic toast for a buttery twist, the blend of garlic and cheese has never let anyone down. This DIY approach keeps the BLT a beloved staple, offering endless ideas for creating a sandwich that’s perfect for your tastes.
